Activision has delayed the second season of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Fans should be able to access the next season on February 1, but now it looks like we won’t see it until February 15.
Activision detailed the reason for the short delay of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Twitter post (opens in a new tab). “Our studio teams have made a few changes based on what we’ve heard from our gaming community,” said Activision.
While the next two weeks may feel like a long wait, Activision has detailed some new content coming in Season 2 for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.
Give me the loot
With the second season of Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale game, Warzone, there will be various new updates and content. This includes the return of Resurgence mode along with a smaller map and updates to the Gulag, looting, and equipment.
For Resurgence fans, this is great news. The mode offered a very fast alternative to the traditional Battle Royale mode in Warzone. In Resurgence, as long as one of your party members is still alive, you can respawn on the map after a short countdown. Being set on a smaller map also means there’s a lot more moment-to-moment action than in the less populated and harder to spawn Warzone mode.
As for Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 updates, Activision has announced the return of ranked play along with new maps, modes, and weapons. There’s not much to do at the moment, but Activision has stated that more information will be available soon.
white noise
Since launch last year, a common complaint I’ve seen about Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 has been a lack of content, with too few maps, modes, and weapons to generate interest. So it’s good to see that Activision is listening to the community.
I’ll be a cautious optimist until I can confidently say that Activision hasn’t added anything too crazy
However, I will be judging Warzone 2 season until I can play it. Too many times I’ve been scorned by developers promising additional content. Making fun of me after Blizzard delivered another half-baked seasonal event despite all my excitement.
I can’t stop thinking about the worst case scenario. What if Activision decides to make the flashes brighter than the sun itself, or maybe throw caution to the wind and let riot shields deflect all projectiles from all directions? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about all the promised updates.
I’ll probably play the second season of Warzone and Modern Warfare 2. But I’ll be cautiously optimistic until I can confidently say that Activision hasn’t added anything too crazy or done anything heartbreaking like removing my favorite map Shipment.
