The KFC Console caught the attention of gamers and fried chicken lovers around the world after its reveal, and it’s easy to see why.
First announced in December 2020, the novelty of the fast food maker building a console was not only totally unexpected – and downright hilarious – but the KFC console also promised to keep you warm while playing takeaways with its built-in chicken chamber.
Created in partnership with computer hardware maker Cooler Master, KFConsole as it is officially known was initially teased in June 2020. The very idea of KFC creating a console drove fans crazy on social media, which eventually led to Kentucky Fried Chicken suppliers continuing the concept .
However, since the KFC Console announcement, details have been scarce. It’s still unclear if the console will see the light of day at all, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t piqued our interest. After all, we’ve seen crazier things in the video game industry over the years.
Since then, Microsoft has embodied the Xbox Series X meme and released the Xbox Mini Fridge, so we think the prospect of gaming on a bucket-shaped gaming PC that holds toast isn’t beyond our imagination. If you want to know more about KFC Console, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the elusive fast-food slot machine that promises to be finger-clicking good.
KFC Console: Get to the point
- What is this? KFC game console. Not serious
- How much does it cost? Probably over 20 buckets of KFC Party Bucket
- When will it be released? Probably never. No release date given.
KFC Console price and release date
KFC has never announced a price or release date for the KFC console, but we can take a chance at guessing how much the system might cost based on its specs, which we’ll cover in more detail below.
The console is allegedly a minicomputer for custom games – and these are not cheap. KFC also said the system is capable of running the latest titles in “stunning 4K, 240 fps”, though this is obviously overkill. This number is based on the console running “I love you Colonel Sanders! Finger licking good dating simulator. So yeah, take that claim with a pinch of eleven herbs and spices if you like.
Either way, we’d expect to part with about at least $600 / £600 if the KFC console ever releases, with potentially different SKUs available in different price ranges. That’s over 20 buckets of KFC Party Buckets to put it from a chicken’s perspective, and would exceed the price of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, which are $499/£449 respectively.
That’s assuming it gets released anyway. We haven’t heard any further details since the 2020 announcement, and we’re now in August 2022. Given the nature of this hardware, it seems unlikely that this KFC console will ever see the light of day in its current form.
KFC Console Specification
Shaped like a bargain bucket, the machine is apparently capable of chewing through the latest games, though like the price and release date, many of the KFC console’s specs are still top secret.
The console promises to use Intel’s top-of-the-line Intel Nux 9 Extreme Compute Element, an ASUS-powered hot-swappable mini-GPU, and two Seagate BarraCuda 1TB NVMe SSDs. Mini-GPUs may not offer the same performance as their bigger brothers, but depending on the dimensions of the KFC console, it is possible to put a more powerful card in it.
Of course, there is also the unique advantage of the KFC console, namely the world’s first built-in chicken compartment. The chamber will ensure that your chicken never gets cold as the patented chamber uses the system’s natural heat and airflow to keep it warm.
KFC console design
Take a look at KFConsole and what do you see? That’s right, it’s shaped like the company’s famous bucket and is based on a custom version of the Cooler Master NC100 case. The power button is on the front of the device, along with a large compartment that we can only assume can be opened (somehow) so you can put fried chicken in it.
The bottom of the console appears to have some sort of RGB lighting that is red to match the sleek aesthetic of the console. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if RGB is customizable as it’s a pretty standard feature for modern gaming PCs. That and one color is never enough for most players these days, especially those who take pride in the aesthetics of their machine.
Is the KFC console real?
This question is on everyone’s lips (probably along with KFC sauce), but the chances of the console appearing on the market are relatively slim. There is a big difference between concepting and producing such a device, especially as the global semiconductor crisis continues to affect Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo when it comes to deliveries.
On the other hand, chicken compartment aside, the KFC console is basically just an ATX computer with pre-built components inside. The hardest part after securing the necessary parts would be fabricating the custom casing and making sure the system actually keeps the fried meat warm as promised. It’s not like KFC has to produce its own silicon and SOC (system on chip).
Can I pre-order a KFC console?
Unfortunately not. KFC hasn’t announced a price or release date for its ambitious system, and frankly, we’re not sure if it will become an actual product in the future. Yet we cross all our fingers and toes to make it actually happen. I mean, who doesn’t want to own a machine that keeps fried chicken warm and offers amazing gaming performance? Exactly.
