All-new Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Superstars was just shown at Summer Game Fest, part of the E3 2023 preview season.
The game brings Sonic back to his 2D roots in a completely original title from Sonic Team for the first time since 2017 Sonic Mania. The game is scheduled to launch on all PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC this “Fall 2023”, so expect it to release between September and December.
This is great news for fans wanting more about the hedgehog after Sonic Frontiers. Many playable characters have also been confirmed, including Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. The 2.5D art style is sure to be divisive, but many fans will welcome the return to the side-scrolling 2D format.
It’s been some huge years for Sonic as the franchise seems to have found its footing again. Sonic Frontiers impressed by the new, bold direction. sound origin, being a flawed collection, it introduced new fans to the original hedgehog games. Meanwhile, Sonic lit up the silver screen with two successful films that were well received Sonic Prime on Netflix and the upcoming TV show spin-off Knuckles.
If Sonic Superstars will maintain the high quality bar set by Sonic Mania remains to be seen. However, it certainly looks like something better than unlucky Sonic the hedgehog 4. Huge congratulations also to Sonic Team for incorporating some iconic characters into the game from the start.
Sonic Superstars this is not the only Sonic Team project this year. Sonic Origins Plus, an updated version of last year’s compilation will debut on June 23, Sonic’s official birthday. The second big one Sonic Frontiers it is also speculated that the update will be released on the same day.
Sonic Frontiers it also has free story DLC coming later this year, so Sonic fans have a lot to offer this year and next.
